How it works

From Friday afternoon to Havdalah

Time is fetched

On launch the app looks up this week's candle-lighting time from HebCal using your location, or your manual setting.

Candles light

Right at candle-lighting time, two animated candles appear and begin to flicker and burn down.

They burn out

After your configured duration, melted stubs remain on screen with a "Shavua Tov" message.

Havdalah & reset

Once the real Havdalah time passes, the app returns to a countdown for next week's lighting.

FAQ

Good to know

Do I need to open the app myself every Friday?

No — Android lets you schedule the app to open automatically at candle-lighting time using built-in tools like Samsung Bixby Routines, Xiaomi Scheduled Tasks, or the free MacroDroid app. The app then lights the candles the instant it opens.

Does it work without an internet connection?

The candle-lighting time is fetched once and cached for 24 hours, so a brief connection on Friday is enough. Manual time mode needs no internet at all.

Does the app need my exact location?

Location is only used to calculate your local candle-lighting and Havdalah times via HebCal — it's never stored or shared. You can skip it entirely and enter a time manually.

Can I turn the candles off early?

Yes — an optional "Turn Off" button (with a confirmation dialog) lets you extinguish the candles before the configured duration ends.
